1996, from my preface to Paris-London
A commission from the monthly magazine Réalités for a photo-essay on prostitutes, followed by another from an American magazine on strip-tease, allowed me to give my voyeurism free rein. For the first report I kept a respectful distance, photographing Rue Saint-Denis and the avenues of the Bois de Boulogne through the windows of a car. On the second subject I got in closer (as Robert Capa would have wished): an obliging porter allowed me to penetrate to the Holy of Holies at the Sphynx, a third rate cabaret on Rue Pigalle.
